Filly From: David Stewart Laughing Orca Ranch Groaningpanda By Dave 1stChurch Glenn Craven Natalie Walton Jenny Trooper York Blood-Horse Staff My Horses RackinRocky Blood-Horse Staff /26709926

David Stewart explains:
Given the conditions, I’m bound to scan the card for Selkirks and Sadlers Wells, of which there are four: Belle Chose is a handicapper; Chirkova has already failed at Listed and Group-3, and is still a maiden; though the choice of Johnny Murtagh, Roman Empress did nothing for me in the Pretty Polly and was earlier beaten by the last of this quartet, Roses For The Lady, at Leopardstown.

Laughing Orca Ranch gives a bit of an idea about it:
June 19, 2009 11:38 AM allhorsestuff said... PERFECT!!! I love that name reading your research on it..She is fast too! YALLA YALLA fast!Your pics and her shadow keeping up with her are sweet! I think she is adorable and I am a bit in want of a baby Wa now! Kac

However, groaningpanda states that:
He couldn t help but play along with his best good friend. Who would ever not want to?

In response, By claims:
Acoma rated nicely under Corey Lanerie in mid-pack through the backstretch of the 1 1/16-mile turf event while In My Glory took the field of six through splits of :24.51 and :49.12. Tizaqueena , who entered with a four-race win streak, took over around the far turn and was the one to catch at the quarter-pole.

Dave is rather skeptical:
Sex Summary Despite his recent win with Sariska in the Oaks and a still respectable 12.9% win strike-rate with fillies, he clearly does better with the male of the species. Notably his horses and colts perform a lot better than his gelding’s do, although they do have a decent place strike-rate.

1stChurch imagines that:

Natalie Walton brings some great news:
And Even though it's a short read, it took me a while to get going with this book but the second half was much more entertaining with honest and humourous insights into motherhood.

Having that in mind, Jenny wonders:
Mr. Diamond came in second, good for P675,000; followed by Iconic and Dream Supreme as third and fourth placers, taking P375,000 and P150,000 respectively. Quarter times were 25-23 -24 -27 for a total time of 1:40.6.

Trooper York comes with the facts:
Wednesday, June 24, 2009 Congratulations to the little filly! New York Post Page Six June 24, 2009 THESE two are better than a pair of Manolos! Sarah Jessica Parker 's surrogate gave birth to twin girls, reps said yesterday. Parker and Matthew Broderick , who wed in 1997, conceived James Wilkie, 6, but had no luck getting pregnant again. The twins, Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge, were born Monday at East Ohio Regional Hospital, each weighing about 6 pounds. "The babies are doing beautifully and the entire family is over the moon," a rep for the couple said. Surrogate Michelle Ross, 26, was also doing well. Congratulations and best wishes.

Beforehand, though, Luke Harvey (who was presenting for ATR) and his cameraman passed me, and Luke gave me a cheery greeting with a particularly amused grin on his face. I should have smelled a rat, but I didn't, and thought nothing of it - until an hour or so later, when speaking to Emma on the telephone, she told me that I'd featured as the focus of attention on ATR in the 'worst dressed' category, which no doubt Luke would have found extremely funny. As I apparently have "no sense of personal vanity", even I was able to see the funny side of it, but if ever ATR decided to employ James Sherwood as its fashion czar I'm sure that he would have had some choice words to say!

I kind of like that they have been ending some cards with "feature" races. I do not think any of the "big" networks are televising races this weekend, just TVG and HRTV. Thus, I am not sure why the American Derby is being run as Race #7. The only things I can come up with are that they did not want Giant Oak s race to be part of the late P4, or the field came up to short to place it in there Z-5 gimic. Regardless, the second half of the card looks like it is going to have some great racing.

dan_illman thinks that the problem is:
Posted by: Captain Bodgit on July 09, 2009 at 07:25 AM --> TBTA-from the running lines it looked like Bishop s Creek only bled about every 3rd race (and without lasix, the way today s horses are bred, that s actually a comparativly healthy horse) What we ve done (as the public and as handicappers) is unfortunatly, due to the media, lumped all drugs together as "bad". That s like saying there is no difference between Aspirin and Cocaine. I know in the "olden days" that there was the belief that Lasix could be used as a masking agent for other "illegal" drugs, but my guess is that there are far more effective masking drugs than lasix today. If you look at your 2yo maiden races, it seems like you can almost find at least one 2nd time starter-1st time lasix, because with the stress of the "hoopla" surrounding that first start, it seems like a lot (if not most) firsters, especially young ones, who aren t on lasix end up bleeding. (Mike says that if a firster starts without lasix the trainer isn t intending to win first out, but just g iving the horse the actual race experience to see how he handles it) I do think that there should be EXTENSIVE reporting of medications that should travel with the horse and that all post-race drug tests should become a PERMANENT and readily available part of that horse s record so that people who choose to breed to the horse know what they re getting into. (Since most stallions were winners in their own right, there would be several such tests available) and broodmare owners, young horse purchasers, etc. would know the medication history of mom and dad. But we ve allowed lasix far too long to go back now, and I m not sure it has an adverse effect on the sport.

Gmail.com/login For example, By considers: They started out from New Mexico as unknowns on what most believed to be a fool s journey, and ended up with a police escort to Pimlico. Figueroa couldn t believe it when he saw the heavy traffic on Interstates 70 and 695 clearing out of their lane to the sound of blaring police sirens and whirring helicopters. People were taking pictures from the overpass. Others stood in their front yards near Pimlico shouting words of encouragement. Figueroa, who had never been east of Oklahoma, turned to Woolley, who has driven close to 2,000 miles with a broken right leg, and said, It s amazing what two minutes can do.

In other words, Dave puts it this way:
Course Summary â€" Saved the best till last. I think the course plays a key part in a trainers stats. For example you would assume his record at his local track at Newmarket would be pretty good but only 9.5% winners on the July course and 6.2% on the Rowley course is hardly inspiring. He does though have very good strike-rates when visiting Musselburgh and Hamilton. His best tracks in terms of win strike-rates though are Catterick, Redcar, Brighton, Newcastle and the all-weather at Southwell.

Post.Time considers that:
But Jackson is only one player in this mess. Jerry Moss, the co-owner of Zenyatta, has been a little too careful with his filly, as well. She has raced outside of California just once during an 11-race career that includes one boring win after a nother over the same group of horses.

Before going any further, Ray Paulick wants to get this straight:

After he broke his maiden impressively (on March 19), we figured we d give him a shot in the Arkansas Derby. We were pointing him for the Lone Star Derby (gr. If By the Light seems exceptional and intriguing, her breeder is no less so. Thoroughbreds have always been in the background of Paul Rothfuss’ life, but he spent his professional career in radio broadcasting. Starting at 17 as a disc jockey, by twenty-three Paul Rothfuss, (aka “Paul Rodgers”) was the “number one top-forty guy” at WCAO in Baltimore. He admits the DJ’s life was a little whacky: “[The TV comedy] WKRP in Cincinnati got just one thing wrong. What took a half hour on TV took about two weeks to play out at the station.” In the mid-70s, Rothfuss turned to management, eventually co-owning and operating nearly one-hundred radio stations throughout the US. In June 2008 Rothfuss celebrated his fifty-year anniversary in broadcasting. He also took the occasion to put the industry behind him. “I loved radio,” he said, but he was ready to return to the roots of his upbringing and pursue a life-long passion full-time.

Still being unsure, undisclosed@blogs.pressdemocrat.com (horseracing) asks:
All Jackson had to do was wait to make sure the filly came out of the race OK before opening his wallet. No worries and little risk, just money, which he has plenty of. Then Jackson turns the filly over to his trainer Steve Asmussen, who also trained Curlin, and they're off to he Preakness Stakes.

Thinking that's not all, admin adds:
June 17, 2009 - 9:05 am Amy Carroll - Ashley - You weren't kidding!! What a GREAT way to start my morning...looking at this beautiful beautiful little horse! Ahh...love! :) And what lovely images! Nice work my friend!

Furthermore, admin claims:
turn out to be pretty smart. Considering unraced horses are 0-17 in this race lets take out the unraced males first

dan_illman intervenes and adds:
Posted by: dylbert on July 08, 2009 at 07:41 PM --> HG 141: For the first time, I managed a small profit from the last exercise; trying for continued success here although we have such limited information and sketchy trainer tactics.

Glenn Craven comes with a new idea:
Who does this guy think he is? Glenn Craven I am a small-town newspaper editor with nearly two decades in the journalism business. A longtime fan of horse racing and self-taught student of thoroughbred pedigree, on March 30, 2009, I became a co-breeder for the first time when my mare, Bushes Victory (Spartan Victory-Below Broad Street, by Kokand) delivered a chestnut filly by Mighty Forum(GB). She will be named Oracle at Delphi. View my complete profile

dan_illman imagines that:
MAXINCOMEFREE (#8) hopped at the start two back, then rushed up to make a clear lead turning for home. She failed to change leads, however, and was nipped at the wire. She may be on or near the front under her apprentice ride, and fits on form.

However, Dave states that:
CAPABLE GUEST who has slipped down to a winnable mark, having won the Zetland Gold Cup this time last year off a 4lb higher mark. Is of interest with both the combination of drop in trip to a mile and the application of the visor likely to see him at his best. Ran ok last time after a long absence and is worth an each-way backup bet at likely big odds.

For example, By considers:
Acoma rated nicely under Corey Lanerie in mid-pack through the backstretch of the 1 1/16-mile turf event while In My Glory took the field of six through splits of :24.51 and :49.12. Tizaqueena , who entered with a four-race win streak, took over around the far turn and was the one to catch at the quarter-pole.

dan_illman brings more details:
For the good preservation of pastures it is very important that they should be grazed alternately, as far as possible, by horses, cows or oxen (but not by sheep). Grazing by horses only, continued through many years, seems to produce some peculiarities on the respective pastures which are doubtlessly injurious, but up to the present not yet investigated scientifically." - pages 413-415

charl scans the other's answers and reply:

Amateurcapper thinks that the problem is:
Hot sire MEDAGLIA D ORO will be represented by (6) CHAMPAGNE D ORO, 3rd to WELL DESERVED in the Cinderella S. She gets a major rider switch to GARRETT GOMEZ and will start toward the outside after drawing the two hole in her first two starts. She s still a maiden but her stallion s success indicates she can win as the distances increase. Exacta partner with the top choice.

admin says it all comes down to this:
But Rachel Alexandra’s fame and fortune won’t end with the decision to not run in the Belmont Stakes. This young lady will be featured in the August edition of   Vogue Magazine .   Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, was inspired by Rachel’s victory over the field of boys in the Preakness Stakes and ordered a photo shoot for last week at Churchill Downs in Kentucky.  The Associated Press reports that Rachel is a clotheshorse without the clothes.

dan_illman explains:
I m not sure if it s the winner but Chaazz is certainly worthy of some accolades as he boxed the first five horses across the wire.

Fillies remembers that:

dan_illman brings more details:
First, here is what the Price and Probability method that I use has come up with for this race:

By imagines that:
Among Pure Clan s wins were the Pocahontas (gr. III) and Golden Rod (gr. II) on Churchill's dirt in 2007, and the American Oaks (gr. IT) on the Hollywood Park turf in July. The chestnut also won the Regret (gr. IIIT) over the Churchill grass last summer.

dan_illman gives a bit of an idea about it:
I e-mailed them and they said the only thing they are having this year is an on-site contest on both BC Days. Bummer!

gerrileen is rather skeptical:

Jason has another idea:
Ailsa Carmel has a decent level of ability and her experience over this 5f with count for her. The form horses have shown a level of ability but need to improve.

Despite the previous arguments, Jilly has many reasons to think otherwise:
